JESSIE Mweshipopya and Margie Stanton won the main titles at the Windhoek Bowling Club’s annual club singles competition last weekend.
Members were excited to be back on the green after the easing of lockdown restrictions allowed for more than 10 people to gather for non-contact sports.
After a full weekend of tight games, Mweshipopya won the men’s division with Mike Rumsey finishing as the runner-up, while Margie Stainton won the women’s division, with Truda Meaden finishing as runner-up.
According to a press release issued by the Windhoek Bowling Club, they will compete against the reigning male and female champions from other Windhoek, Tsumeb and Coastal bowling clubs.
Windhoek Bowling Club is the oldest bowling club in the country. Its well-kept greens and cozy club house have had their home at Parliament Gardens since 1938. Over the years, membership has grown to a diverse and vibrant group, passionate about bowling and growing the sport in Namibia.
Namibia’s top bowls players are young, and have competed regionally and internationally. In 2003, Douw Calitz became the Men’s Singles World Champion in Australia.
