Windhoek Gym retain Netball Super League trophy

THE 2016 Bank Windhoek Schools Netball Super League ended on a high note this past weekend, with Windhoek Gymnasium u19 retaining the trophy for the fourth consecutive year.

Elnatan Private School from Stampriet, gave their best against the title winners, while Windhoek High School came in at third place in the A Division.

In the B Division of the u19 Windhoek Schools Netball Super League, Edugate Academy from Otjiwarongo came out tops with Windhoek Afrikaans Private School (WAP) and Walvis Bay Private High School taking the second and third spots respectively.

“We celebrate another successful Bank Windhoek Schools Netball Super League season. This year 22 teams competed nationally over 11 weeks for the top prize money,” said Liezel Garbers, chairperson of the Bank Windhoek Schools Netball Super League Steering Committee.

“The league was highly competitive this year and we saw quite a few draws and closely contested games. We are proud to say that the Bank Windhoek Schools Netball Super League has brought a new level of competitiveness to schools netball.”

“We want to thank all schools for their commitment and dedication throughout the season. At the end, all teams showed true sportsmanship. We want to thank all umpires, coaches and parents for supporting the Bank Windhoek Schools Netball Super League,” said Garbers.

“Bank Windhoek believes in promoting local platforms for local communities. The league started off as a pilot project with only one division and, now it is a national event with inclusive participation,” said Marlize Horn, Executive Officer: Group Marketing and Corporate Communication Services at Bank Windhoek.

“The Bank remains passionate about the game of netball and to develop the sport. The increasing number of schools competing in the Bank Windhoek Schools Netball Super League is very positive as it clearly indicates that schools netball is growing and that schools want to give their teams’ exposure and opportunities for development by playing in this very competitive league.”
