A new sanctuary for babies and their parents has opened its doors in Windhoek, promising newborns stronger muscles and improved brain development.
The Water Baby Spa & Wellness Centre opened two weeks ago and caters to babies up to the age of 18 months.
The centre offers hydrotherapy sessions, baby massages, and other supportive services.
Founder and baby spa practitioner Esther Nangombe says her niece inspired the idea.
“We wanted so badly for her to experience something like this, but unfortunately, we couldn’t find a spa like this one. She’s now four and won’t be getting into the pods, but we hope your little ones can benefit from the services we have to offer,” she says.
The spa uses specially designed flotation devices that support babies in the water, allowing freedom of movement that mimics their time in the womb.
“The younger the babies are, the better they react to the water, because they recently spent nine months floating in the womb,” Nangombe says.
She says each visit is a learning experience for the babies, with activities tailored to their age and sensory thresholds.
Nangombe says hydrotherapy strengthens babies’ muscles, as well as improving coordination digestion, and even sleep.
The water temperature is kept at a comfortable 36 degrees Celsius, and hygiene is a top priority, with swim diapers and pods washed daily.
Nangombe says the spa also provides a space for parents to bond with their babies.
“We created our spa to enable parents to spend time with their newborn baby, where they can bond, away from highly energetic siblings at home. It was designed to offer parents a touch of luxury and the assurance of professionalism in the handling of their newborn,” she says.
Parents can watch as their babies explore and develop motor skills through play and movement in the water.
