THE Namibia Area Round Table has announced it will be staging ‘The Winter Knights of Round Table’ this weekend to raise donations of food, clothes and blankets for the under-privileged.
This initiative forms part of a charity drive being staged across the southern African region, from Durban to Swakop-mund and Polokwane to Cape Town. The local Round Table has invited Namibian companies to make their presence felt this winter by supporting ‘The Winter Knights’ campaign by buying an intersection in Windhoek for N$1 500, in Swakopmund for N$1 000, in Walvis Bay for N$1 000 or in Rehoboth for N$750. Companies can brand the intersection with company logos to show that they take social responsibility seriously.’Help us warm Namibia. In this way, your staff and Round Tablers will experience what it feels like to be at the mercy of the elements and to rely on the generosity of the public,’ said campaign spokesman Pieter Senekal recently. He said that all intersections for sale in Windhoek have been bought up by 15 companies and two in Swakopmund. This year the Round Table is trying to expand its efforts beyond Windhoek, he said.At the intersections, people will be asked to make donations of spare money or to donate old clothes or blankets for those Namibians who are less fortunate. Currently, Radio Wave is sensitising the public to the need to bring what they can spare on Friday, Senekal explained. For those who miss the collection points at intersections, they can always drop donations off at Senekal’s Spes Bona Alfa and Fiat dealership in Windhoek. ‘The Winter Knights’ is proudly sponsored by the Namibian Round Table in association with Radiowave and the Spes Bona Motor Company.
