Woman arrested for alleged possession of crystal meth appears in court

The 60-year-old woman arrested for allegedly possessing drugs valued at over N$1.3 million appeared in the Karasburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The accused, Mathilda Jacobs, made her first court appearance before magistrate Samingo Kasaona, who postponed the case to 11 March.

Court documents indicate that the case was postponed to allow for further police investigations, legal aid for the accused, and laboratory analysis of the suspected drugs.

The documents also indicates that Jacobs was denied bail as she is a flight risk and that it is not in the interest of the public for bail to be granted.

The woman was arrested around 22h00 on Monday at the Ariamsvlei border post. She was allegedly found in possession of six parcels of crystal meth.

The drugs weighed 2 635 grams and has an estimated street valued of N$1 315 500.

Jacobs has been remanded in police custody at the Ariamsvlei Police Station until her next court appearance.
