Woman stabbed 51 times

Lolo Kambwela

The trial of a man accused of murdering his romantic partner in a knife attack at Otjiwarongo is scheduled to start in the Windhoek High Court in October.

Lolo Kambwela (31) will be facing charges of murder, read with the provisions of the Combating of Domestic Violence Act, and defeating or obstructing the course of justice when he stands trial.

Judge Claudia Claasen yesterday postponed Kambwela’s case to 21 October for the start of his trial.

The state is alleging that Kambwela murdered a woman, Nghimushima Haufiku, who was his partner in a romantic relationship in the DRC area of Otjiwarongo on 13 February 2022.

Haufiku died after she had been stabbed at least 51 times with a knife, the state is alleging in the indictment setting out the charges against Kambwela.

It is alleged that Kambwela went to Haufiku’s shack in the DRC area of Otjiwarongo during that evening in 2022.

An argument ensued between them, and Kambwela then launched an attack on Haufiku with a knife, the state is charging.

Haufiku died at the scene due to stab wounds to her chest.

The state is also alleging that Kambwela took the murder weapon and a cellphone with him when he left the scene, after locking the shack, with Haufiku’s body inside, with a padlock.

He is accused of throwing away the knife and a key for the padlock in an attempt to obstruct the police investigation of Haufiku’s death.
Kambwela went to a police station to hand himself over during the same night.

He is being held in custody.

Kambwela is being represented by legal aid lawyer Kenneth Siambango.
