Women’s conference tackles gender-based violence

Women of all ages attended the Namibia National Women Conference addressing the issue of gender-based violence (GBV) on Saturday in Windhoek.

The conference was organised by the Namibia National Men’s Conference under the theme ‘It Is Well, My Darling – We Are All In This Fight Against Violence’.

The aim was to give a platform for education, empowerment and dialogue among women.

Namibia National Men’s Conference founder Fillemon Amoolongo, also known as DJ Munene, states that: “Women are the most frequent victims of GBV, and it’s crucial to provide them with a dedicated platform to address the root causes and seek effective solutions.”

Various speakers were in attendance to share their expertise and experiences regarding GBV.

The conference dealt with different contributing factors that lead to GBV and sexual relationships for financial relief and discussed ways women can strive to become independent.

Amoolongo says they plan to make this an annual event for women to engage in conversations that could put an end to the crisis.

Friedrich Ebert Foundation Namibia, Namibia Qualifications Authority, Omulunga radio and One Africa are among the event’s sponsors.
