Wood and water for Kamanjab

Nicodemus Amutenya, chairperson of the Kamanjab Constituency Youth Forum (KCYF), and his team have been supporting residents with firewood and water since the beginning of the lockdown in March this year.

Amutenya said KCYF members have travelled to his farm to collect firewood to donate to people living with disabilities, as well as the elderly.

“We wanted to bring our side. Some people are unable to collect firewood, so we decided to help where we can,” he told The Namibian.

Water is collected and taken to various points at the village where residents can access it closer to home.

“Some people stay far from water points – especially in informal settlements – so at least they have water nearby now three times a week,” Amutenya said.

The KCYF uses a water tank provided by the office of the Kunene governor.

Not only do they bring water closer to residents, they also help locals carry containers.

Amutenya uses his own vehicle for this initiative.

The Kamanjab Constituency Youth Forum has more than 200 members.
