World Cup within reach for Brave Warriors: NFA

The Brave Warriors reaching the 2026 Fifa World Cup finals is not impossible, says the Namibia Football Association (NFA).

Given the right conditions, it is possible, the NFA noted while sharing its outlook for 2025 yesterday.

Namibia lie second in Group H, two points behind leaders Tunisia after four matches.

There are six more matches remaining, with only the group winner advancing to the final round of qualification.

The NFA is confident of the Brave Warriors World Cup aspirations, despite an abysmal showing in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers, where Namibia failed to win a match and finished bottom of their group.

“Despite setbacks in the 2025 Afcon qualifying competition, the Brave Warriors have a realistic chance of qualifying for the 2026 Fifa World Cup. The NFA firmly believes that, if Namibia wins its remaining qualifying matches,” the NFA notes in a statement.

Namibia hosts all their home matches abroad and have no home support due to the absence of Fifa international standard venues in the country. Not playing in front of their fans has contributed to the run of recent poor results, Brave Warriors head coach Collin Benjamin and analysts have previously pointed out.

This lack of local venues situation is expected to persist for at least another two years while the government refurbishes the Independence Stadium in Windhoek.

“Qualification is within reach. The association calls on all Namibians – corporate entities, the government and the public – to unite behind the national team and contribute to this historic pursuit,” says the NFA.

“The benefits of World Cup qualification would be immense, putting Namibia on the global stage and potentially opening doors for players to secure professional contracts abroad, similar to the impact of the 1998 Afcon qualification.

“This must be a national effort, not solely an NFA undertaking.”
