The festive season is almost here which means tons of people are looking for a December song. You know that track that needs no introduction and automatically gets you into a groove no matter when or where it plays? There was a time when people were climbing roofs and lifting chairs (and each other) because of ‘Omunye’. Or that fainting dance done to the tune of King Monada’s ‘Ska Bhora Moreki’. Not to mention the power Gazza had (or still has) with his hit ‘Chelete’. But the big artists are always making waves, so what about those on the down-low? We found a selection of new tracks from rising artists to ignite your ‘summer spirit’.

It’s got the highest plays on namibiamusic.com right now for a reason. ‘Love Me’ is a melodic Afrobeats song by Chris Wayne and Lodale. It’s one of those songs that’s so enchanting, it’s over before it even began. This cool and catchy track sees the duo plead with their lady loves to ‘never leave them’ and we can’t help but love their voices as they do. Have a listen online.

We were going through artist Centrepiece’s music and found a gem called ‘Stopwatch’. Whatever the formula for amapiano is, Centrepiece has got it. We also love that the artist has got the art of single covers down – they’re professional and attractive. You’d never even know house music was the genre Centrepiece is going for. Easily able to get you into a good mood, we’d have this playing on a jukebox when a Sunday session is hot and happening, or on a road trip when you need something to keep you going. We approve.

No, the title is not misspelled. It’s a diss track. Remember back in the days when artists created a fanbase and started fights with one another for no reason? Well… it’s been a while since a rapper took to the mic and fired off, but no fear, Theoriii is here, and he’s creating a stir. And we’re here for it! ‘Dissclaimer’ has thousands of plays on namibiamusic.com and the rapper is coming for everyone and their mamas. Leaving no stone unturned, Theoriii attacks the state of the music industry and artists who have been making headlines lately. Surely, this song leaves room for reply… Beef stew, anyone?

Some Namibians prefer to listen to house music, but few know how to make it. That’s Devitchi for you, a local producer and DJ who’s been making waves in the underground community thanks to his mixes and tracks. If you’ve ever seen him perform, you’ve probably wondered whether he plays international music or his own, and the answer is often the latter. ‘Sorry For The Disrespect’ is one of his latest instrumentals which is incredibly well produced, and each time you listen to it, you’ll find a new jingle you didn’t catch before. Played loud and proud, this is definitely your intro to December.

The music video may have debuted a couple of months ago, but the song is still catchy. Don’t give up on Namibian hip-hop yet, folks. ‘No Regrets’ is proof of that. The video sports a concept you’ve seen the past few months. Underground parking lots. Local baddies showing off their bods. Neo-noir undertones. You’ve got the vibe. But the song is where the magic is at. Followers of The Smith’s music knows he prefers a down-tempo rhythm which new school rappers are all about, and a whole lot of bass and grown folk lyrics. With local rapper Romi jumping onto the second half of the track, it becomes 10 times better. You can’t help but admire her smooth entry. Just make sure you turn up the volume on this one.
