Youth festival to be held at coast

Youth festival to be held at coast

THE National Youth Week festival will be held at Swakopmund and Walvis Bay from April 27 to May 2.

‘The event aims to be an annual celebration of the hope and potential of Namibian youth and will use art, music, intellectual and other various means in order for the young people to express their ‘Namibianness’ and aspirations,’ said the Secretary General of the National Youth Council of Namibia, Mandela Kapere, at a press briefing at Swakopmund on Tuesday. Kapere said President Hifikepunye Pohamba and other government, church, academic and financial leaders will attend the event. The Youth Council has selected boxer Moses ‘The Hitman’ Paulus, WBA lightweight world champion, as the patron of the event.
Kapere said the festival hopes to attract more than 1 000 young people from all over the country.
‘The festival will be fun, informative and will aim to unite young Namibians with the aim to celebrate their youthfulness and with an expressed bias toward achieving the national aspirations of Vision 2030,’ said Kapere.
The theme of the festival will be ‘Make your move’, and according to Kapere it was chosen to highlight the core issues Namibian youth must be occupied with, such as eliminating the risk of HIV-AIDS, job creation and the shaping of young entrepreneurs.
