Youth ministry trains 30 boys on health matters

About 30 boys were trained by the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Services on health matters in the Kavango East region this week.

The ministry, under a soccer-based health curriculum, trained adolescent boys and men in the Ndonga Linena constituency.

The aim is to educate boys and young men aged between 15 and 24.

According to team leader and youth officer Kosmas Shimanu, the health programme leverages the power of soccer to equip the men with basic health knowledge.

“Boys that dropped out of school are targeted to educate them about decision-making and risky behaviours as far as their lives are concerned,” Shimanu says.

Shimanu says they invited two nurses who educated them about HIV and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

One of the beneficiaries, Ambrosius Munango, encouraged the young people who received training to put into practice.
This ongoing programme is a first of kind piloted in the Ndonga Linena constituency.

The next training is proposed to be held in the Mukwe constituency at Omega 1, in the Kavango East region.

The date is yet to be confirmed.
