Youth plans oil and gas body

THE organisers of the recent Youth in Oil and Gas Summit have announced plans to establish a formal youth-led oil and gas association by next year.

This was announced at the summit, held at Walvis Bay on 27 July.

Justina Erastus, the organiser of the summit, says the association would aim to provide a platform for young professionals to network, share knowledge and advocate their role in the industry’s growth.

“This ambitious goal aims to solidify our commitment to empowering young Namibians and fostering a vibrant, inclusive and innovative industry,” she said.

During the event, Erastus called on stakeholders in the oil and gas industry, including the ministries of mines and energy, of industrialisation and trade and of youth, sport and national service, to work together in supporting the youth’s pursuit of success in the sector.

“It is imperative that we collectively support the youth in their pursuit of success within the crucial extractive industry. The development and prosperity of our nation’s future leaders depend on our willingness to invest in their education, training and professional growth,” she said.

After the event, Erastus said the summit featured a panel of speakers, including NJ Ayuk, the executive chairman of the African Energy Chamber, entrepreneurs and academics.

She said attendees gained valuable insight into various aspects of the oil and gas sector – from project management and business development to legal and technical expertise.

“The Youth in Oil and Gas Summit stands as a beacon of opportunity, highlighting the critical role education, mentorship and industry support play in shaping the next generation of professionals,” she said. – The Brief
