The case of Zambezi’s chief regional officer, Regina Ndopu-Lubinda, and five other individuals who have been arrested in connection with corruption by the Anti-Corruption Commission in October, has been transferred to the regional court.

This comes after a brief appearance in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Ndopu-Lubinda and her co-accused, regional director for planning and rural development Beaven Walubita, deputy director for planning and rural development Cletius Mubita, chief development planner Daniel Mbala, deputy director for administration Abraham Shikoyeni (48), and chief accountant Nimrod Lichela (47), are implicated in a corruption probe involving N$4,6 million.

All of them are out on bail of N$50 000 each.

The accused have been charged with corruptly using their office for gratification and conspiracy to commit offences, while Walubita and Shikoyeni are facing an additional charge of corruptly providing an agent with a false document.

Magistrate Davy Kambinda said the accused would have their first appearance in the regional court on 30 January.

All of them have private legal representation.

State prosecutor Bronah Mukoya represented the state in the matter.
