Zambezi regional leaders remember Nujoma

Zambezi regional leaders say the late founding president, Sam Nujoma, leaves behind a legacy of freedom for Namibians that future generations will forever remember.

Nujoma died following a period of short illness on Saturday in Windhoek.

Speaking to The Namibian on Sunday, Katima Mulilo Urban constituency councillor Kennedy Simasiku described Nujoma as a magnetic leader with unparalleled leadership qualities.

“We bid farewell to a great leader, who belongs to the upper class of the greatest African leaders of all time. He leaves behind an independent, sovereign, peaceful, and free republic of Namibia. He sacrificed his youth to liberate this great nation, and for that, future generations will forever remember and thank him,” he said.

Former regional governor Bernard Sibalatani expressed his condolences to the Nujoma family and the nation, saying Nujoma was a leader made by God to liberate the country.

“His sacrifices to liberate this great nation will forever be cherished. He groomed many leaders, and as we mourn him, we must remain united and remember the great leadership skills he instilled in us,” he said.

Sibbinda constituency councilor Micky Lukaezi described Nujoma as a leader who championed the peace and stability that many Namibians enjoy today.

“He strived for unity among all tribes. He was passionate about eradicating hunger and malnutrition. We are saddened by his death but we will continue to celebrate him through his rich legacy,” he said.

Zambezi Vocational Training Centre manager Richard Kambinda noted that the late founding president will be remembered as a leader who paved the way for national reconciliation policy after apartheid.

“We will always appreciate him and others who went into exile to liberate our country. In light of his death, we should remain peaceful,” he said.
