Zöe reveals ‘Queen of Quartz’ ahead of Miss Teen International

Zöe Karsten, Miss Teen Namibia 2022, this week revealed the national costume she will wear in the national costume segment of the Miss Teen International pageant.

The national costume section is one of the most popular segments of the international pageant and Zöe will highlight the quartz crystal cluster with her dress.

The pageant, which is taking place in Cambodia, started on 15 June.

The international beauty spectacle is an annual pageant for teenage girls worldwide that started in 1993, with Sofia Andersson of Sweden its first winner.

Umbi Karuaihe-Upi, the chief executive officer of the Miss Namibia Organisation, said the dress is titled ‘Queen of Quartz’, and is designed and created by Andeline Andi Wieland and Threadline Studio.

“Namibia is famous for its exceptional variety of gemstones. It is home to the world’s largest quartz crystal cluster on display. The amethyst is known for its rock-hard exterior, but when cut open it reveals its true beauty in the form of purple crystals. In the same way, Namibia would like to be known that its true beauty comes from within,” Karuaihe-Upi says.

Speaking to The Namibian from Cambodia, Zöe shared her experience at the Miss Teen International 2023 pageant so far, describing it as remarkable.

“The trip from Windhoek via Johannesburg and Singapore to Cambodia was a total of about 27 hours, but a forever memory for me. The weather is something that I will never get used to. It is extremely humid, so we had to make adjustments to initial hairstyles, as the curls do not hold in this weather,” she said.

Zöe said the swimsuit competition was postponed due to a flash thunderstorm.

“The thunderstorms here remind me of home. For me, this somehow was a message that Namibia is with me and it gave me a warm feeling around my heart. The hotel is brand new and very luxurious,” she said.

She said the organisation treats them to various local cuisine every day and the food is spicy.

Zöe said the competition is still in its early stages and she is looking forward to many more unforgettable memories.

“My roommate is Floortje Timmer of The Netherlands. We get along really well and we have shared so many stories about our countries. I have tried to befriend most, if not all, the contestants by asking about their country and trying to at least greet them in their language. This was a goal I set for myself before the trip,” Zöe said.
